Utilizzo di un geocomposito bentonitico per l’impermeabilizzazione del fondo di una discarica, Pentakomo – Cipro

As we can see from the attached photos, the soil was composed of stones therefore not suitable. To avoid moving countless tons of clay soil and avoid difficult laying, a bentonite geocomposite was used.

Modulo Geobent XP5/310 was used for this project.
It is a bentonite geocomposite with 5 kg/m2 of natural sodium bentonite with a grain size between 2.36 and 0.25 mm.
The bentonite layer is contained within two PP geotextiles, of which the load-bearing layer, lower and black in colour, is a 110 g/m2 fabric, while the protective layer, upper and white in colour, is a 200 g/m2 nonwoven.
The product guarantees excellent hydraulic performance, with permeability values k = 2×10-11m/s and a flow index of 5×10-9 m3/m2/s and high mechanical strength.
Thanks to the woven used, the product has a tensile strength of 12kN/m in both directions, 2.2kN static punching resistance and a peel strength of 65 N/10cm.
Due to these properties, the product was selected as suitable to replace the clay layer originally required by the project and to be able to use the same product on the bottom of the landfill as well as on the embankments.
